Apparently John and Elizabeth were separated sometime after the early 1880’s, for John was residing near Jett’s Creek, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, in 1889 when he applied for his pension.  Elizabeth was living at Drip Rock in Jackson County, Kentucky, in 1893 when she first applied for a widow’s pension.  John had a son, Sam P., born around 1888, but the mother is unknown.  John was living near Elkatawa in Breathitt County when he died in June or July of 1893.  Elizabeth remarried to a Thomas R. Fry, who was a veteran of Company F of the 85th Pennsylvania Infantry, also outlived him, and applied for a widow’s pension from both men’s service.
